Why should you consider agriculture in your world building? Beyond high/epic fantasy which often has a pseudo-medieval culture, food supply issues and agriculture play an important role in your characters’ back stories. I give some examples from urban fantasy, as well as talk about how a little ag knowledge impacts cowboy romances.
In the bonus episode for my supporters, I mention Beth Cato’s series, Blood of Earth. Breath of Earth is the first book, and she does a great job of giving readers extra research information that wouldn’t fit in the book, balancing out world building research and the story. (The topic of my bonus podcast for supporters.)

Since moving to the Ozarks in 2013, Mary's embraced her inner farm girl and worked her love of animals (especially horses) into her writing fantasy and women's literature. The Fantasy Farmer Podcast combines her love of farming with speculative fiction and author education to help authors with the care and feeding of their rural protagonists.
