In this episode I encourage you to think outside the box, or rather outside the field, when it comes to livestock. What about people in small spaces? How about urban livestock keeping? I discuss raising livestock like Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and B. Dubia roaches for my bearded lizards and mealworms for chickens. We think about societies where eating insects is normal (and actually a very good low resource bioavailable source of protein.) So let’s open the barn door and rethink livestock in our speculative fiction worlds.
Since moving to the Ozarks in 2013, Mary's embraced her inner farm girl and worked her love of animals (especially horses) into her writing fantasy and women's literature. The Fantasy Farmer Podcast combines her love of farming with speculative fiction and author education to help authors with the care and feeding of their rural protagonists.
